BRITISH FILM FAVOURED.

BIG SCHEME IN jxDIA. Telegraph—Tress Assn.—Copyright. London. Sept. 12. The Daily Express states that six Indian Princes, the Aga. Khan and the Maharajahs of Alwar Patiala, Bakinar, Jaipur and Kashmir, are subscribing generously to a scheme to raise £1,600,1)00 to break down the barrier to British films in India. The scheme proposes a chain of cinema houses where only British films will be shown. The Maharajah of Alwar’s contribution is £106,000, that of the Maharajah of Patiala £30,000, and the Aga Khan’s £25,000. As the majority of Indians arc unable to read, India is regarded as one of the most promising markets, for films. The world scheme does not aim at profits, but at breaking America’s stranglehold -upon the films.
