PUBLIC HALL DESTROYED.

BLAZE AT BLACKBALL. By Telegraph.—Press A-ssocutfm. Greymouth, Sept. 13. Mandi’s Hall, Blackball, was destroyed by fire last night. The hall, which was worth between £l5OO and £l7OO. had not been in use during the day. About 9.45 p.m. a fire began in the rear portion and the flames spread rapidly over the structure, which was reduced lo ashes. There was no water supply. Ti e origin of the fire is unknown. The hall belonged to the Mandi (Hokitika) estate, and it is believed was insured for about £lOOO, which will not cover the loss on the building. Behan’s picture firm, which has utilised Mandi’s Hall, will lose about £2OO, as the shed at the rear contained a dynamo and Tangye oil engine, while the firm had their propecting machine in the hall and sundry films.
