STRATFORD NEWS.

SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS. ANNUAL MEETING. , (From Our Own Reporter.) The annua! meeting of the South African War Veterans’ Association took place in t'he Municipal Buildings last night, when a good number of veterans were in attendance. The Mayor (Mr. J. W. McMillan)-, president of the association, was in the chair. The report and. balance-sheet was adopted, the balance-sheet showing a credit balance of £7 7s 4d on the year’s working. Apologies for non-attendance were received from Messrs. Murray Urquhart, R. Mounsey, J. W. Brooks, J. Butler, G. T. Kbefoed, G. Mitchell and T. Richardson. The following officers were elected for the ensuing term:—President, Mr. J. W, McMillan; vice-president, Mr, C. AL Lindop; secretary and treasurer, Mr. T. Lawson; executive, Messrs. J. W. B. Jones, A. Ferguson, T.' Richardson, J. Butler, Hardy-Jones and G. Pugh. The secretary (Mr. T. Lawson) gave a detailed account of the Dominion conference held at Wellington, and was voted a hearty vote of thanks and granted a bonus to three guineas. Votes of thanks to the Borough Council and Press terminated a successful meeting.

GENERAL ITEMS.

At Friday night’s meeting of the Stratford Technical High School Board of Governors the following committees were elected:—Works, Messrs. 11. Trimble, S-. Mkicalister, C. Moore, W. Hoskin, and S. A. Ward; appointments, Messrs. J. McAllister, N. 11. Moss, H. Trimble, W. Hoskin and Mrs. Hardy-Jones; agricultural, Messrs. H. Trimble, J. Cocker, A. H. R. Amess, and H. C. Johnson. Mr. J. G. Lancaster, consulting electrical engineer to the Stratford Borough Council, who has been on an official visit to Stafford, left for Auckland today.

Mr. Fred. Jones, of Lowgarth, is in the Stratford Hospital suffering from _a broken elbow as the result of an accident. The young daughter of Mr. D. Jones is also in the hospital with bronchitis. but is progressing satisfactorily.
