Frances Patrick MeDavitt, aged )8 years, was killed near Awakino yesterday afternoon through being thrown from hie horse. He was a son of Mr. James MeDavitt.

He was riding along the main road about a mile from the township when his horse took fright at an approaching motor car driven by Frederick MeKain, of Mahoenui. The animal turned suddenly and the boy lost his seat and hie foot was held in the etirrup while he was dragged for about 100 yards. Mr. McKain picked MeDavitt up and took him to the boarding-house at Awakino, and district Nurse Welby was sent for. When she arrived about a quarter of an hour later the boy was dead, the cause apparently being concussion. Th* body was taken to the boy’s home.
