ELDERLY WOMAN KILLED

ACCIDENT NEAR GREYMOUTH

Greymouth, Last Night. A fatal accident occurred on Saturday evening at Spring Creek railway crossing, near Kamaka, when the train coming from Blackball to Greymouth struck a ear in which three women were proceeding home to Blackball. Miss Margaret Wolstenholme was alone in the front scat driving, white her mother, Mary Ann Wolstenholme, aged 63, and Mrs. Caldwell were in the rear seat.

I he engine, which whistled just before it struck the ear when the latter was half-way across the line, threw Miss It olstenhohne on to her feet and Mrs. Caldwell six feet forward, while Mrs. " olstenholme was found beneath the mudguard with injuries to her head, from which she died in the train on the way to the hospital. Mrs. Caldwell had her wrist and shoulder broken and was taken to the hospital in a serious condition. Miss Wolstenholme escaped with bruises' and shock.

The crossing in question is a verv dangerous one.
