ALLEGED MASSACRE.

SHWBNG OF ABORIGINES

ANOTHER VERSION OF STORY

T*l*fririi-Prei» Aim.'-Copjniht. Received »Sept. 2, 5.5 p.m. Perth, Sept.' 2<

Another version of the alleged mamacre of aborigines states that a constable and another white man, accompanied by a number of black trackers, were searching for a native wanted on a charge of murder of a white man named Shay.

The trackers, preceding the white men, came upon a native camp. The natives showed fight and attacked the trackers with spears and other weapons. The trackers replied with revolvers and shot dead seven natives before they secured the alleged murderer and rejoined their white companions. One tracker was wounded.

A earlier cable message from Darwin stated:-Mr. Mitchell, chief protector of '.he aborigines in West Australia, has arrived in Darwin in possession of a collection of teeth and bones, which are alleged to be the remains of blacks who were shot down and the bodies burned by a party of white men. It appears that a. search was being conducted in the Wyndham .district fox a native, who was suspected of murder. Two police constables swore in four white men as special constables to assist in the capture. It would seem that the party came upon a group of natives and killed a large number. Wliether the natives resisted, or were aggressive, is not at present known. ihe remains of twelve natives were found, but 27 are missing, and it is presumed that this number was killed. The two constables concerned have been suspended.
