A New York cable announces that Rudolph Valentino's condition hail improved on 'Tuesday. The film star is suffering from peritonitis. The death of Mrs. Grace Neill, the first assistant Inspector of Hospitals in New Zealand, at the age of 80 yean, is announced in a Press Assoeation message from Wellington. Miss Warner has resigned her position on the New Plymouth telephone exchange staff to return to her home in Gisborne. During the week-end Mies Warner was tendered two pleasgnt far& well evenings by her friends, fehe leaves New Plymouth this morning. Mrs. Bradley, of Levin, celebrated her hundredth birthday on Sunday. The Mayor of Levin presided over a large gathering in her honour, and telegrams of congratulation included one from the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates. The death of Lady Strathcona is reported. She will be succeeded by her ton, too Hon. Captain S. Howard, tin* creating a vacancy in the House ei Common 3 for Cumberland North. The Baroness Strathcona was tlie only child of the finst Lord Strathcona and the peerage descended to her and her heir's male. Mr. W. P. The vacancy was caused by the death of Mr. F. W. Edwards.
