BURGLARS ACTIVE.
THEFTS IN CANTERBURY. By Tslegieph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Aug. 17. Goods to the value of £9l were taken from the Oxford branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association. The articles consisted of watches, pendants, rings, two suitcases, tins ot biscuits, chocolates and packets of cigarettes. The Leeston branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co operative Association was broken into last night and an assortment of goods valued at several pounds was taken. On Sunday afternoon the home of A. Johnson, Christchurch, was broken into and the sum of £lB in notes was stolen. The theft took place in broad daylight. A TOBACCONIST ROBBED. Wellington, Aug. 8. The shop of N. Perry, tobacconist, was entered by burglars on Monday night. Mr. Perry is an official of the Boxing Association, and the thieves were after the money taken at the match that night. This was £217, but it was not in the building. Disappointed in their expectations, they made off with about £6O of choice stock and £9 10b in money, but missed another sum of £2O. A similar attempt was made after a previous boxing match, but the door resisted all attempts to open it. The same door failed the burglars once more, but they got in by smashing a fanlight.
