EGYPTIAN CIVILISATION.

SPREAD TO THE PACIFIC. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Aug. 17. Professor Keith, interviewed, eaid he considered the North Chpe crockery and Kaingaroa carvings further evidence of the spread of Egyptian civilisation to the Pacific. They were not connected with the origin of the Maori race, which was more nearly related to the people of India than to the Egyptians. Professor Elliot Smith traced the Egyptian mummification in New Guinea, dating back to 1500 B.C. Egyptian sailors probably reached many islands in the Pacific. It took 500 to 800 years for Egyptian civilisation to reach England, and it was reasonable to assume it took 300 to 400 years to extend to the Pacific. The skulls of Maoris and Egyptians did not indicate relationship.
