PLUNKET SOCIETY.

NEW PLYMOUTH BRANCH. The monthly ■ committee meeting of the New Plymouth branch of the' Plunket Society was held at Plunket House; Courtenay Street, on Monday afternoon. There were present: Mesdames A. M. Mac Diarmid (in the chair), Hickman Russell, lan Roy, W. Clark, C. Roebuck, Edgecombe, W. Brodie, J. T. Griffin, G. H. Thomson, P. C. Davie, Eric Shaw, I. M. Kidd, T. Wilson, F. H. Moore, and the hon. secretary and treasurer (Mrs. D. Le Cren Morgan). Apologies were received from Mesdaines G. H. Stephenson, T. IT. Bates, Fairfax Cholmeley, W. C. Weston, R. Cock, A. M. •Williams, E, B. Davis, G. Home, T. J. Shaw and A. S. Clarke.

The nurses’ report for May was as follows:

Nuffi-ber of babies on the list (old), 388 (new) 30; breast fed 24, supplemented 4, artifically fed 2. Visits paid to 'homes (old eases) 209, (new) 72. Visits received at office (adults) 324. (babies) 283. Advice to expectant mothers 6. Advice on general hygiene 63. Letters written and received, 14. Emulsion used, 191bs. Visits to nursing homes 12, telephone calls 69. Waitara, four visits; old babies 62, new 1. Inglewood, four visits: old babies 72. new

The president reported on the purchase of the Ford coupe, which the nurses found to be a more comfortable and a cosier car than the previous one for the winter weather. It was resolved to send B . letter'of thank's to-Derby and Co. for the allowances made in connection with tlie car, and after a short discussion -it was also decided to .effect a comprehensive policy of insurance on the car. It was resolved that a letter be; sent to the Agricultural Society thanking them for the space allotted and assistance given at the recent winter show, and that application -be made for larger space at their next show. Votes of thanks were passed to Mrs, W. 0. Weston for generously donating the doll to be raffled, to Mrs. J. Scanlan for her generous - action in dressing the doll and to Champions, Ltd., for donation of wool.

Correspondence was received from Central Council", Dunedin, in connection with the annual levy amounting to £2l 3s 8d towards head office expenses, and a request for a contribution of £2 10s towards the cost of the society’s stand at the Dunedin Exhibition. These were passed for payment. Tn reply to a letter from, the Hawera branch asking for delegates to a conference to be held at Hawera on July 1 to discuss remits for the forthcoming general conference in Wellington; the secretary was instructed to state that this branch would be represented, and the sub-br'anclies notified. The mattor and cost of erecting a motor garage on the-property, in Courtenay Street was and as this would also necessitate the removal of the bank at the side entrance, it Was suggested that many fathers of Plunket babies would no doubt voluntarily assist, if an appeal for labour were made in this direction. Tlie secretary would therefore be pleased to.receive the names of those willing to join a working bee. A discussion took place as to the printing of a third edition of the ‘flPlnnket Cookery Book,” members expressing opinion in favour of a third edition. Details were left in the hands of the compilers, Mesdames Williams and Seanlon.

Mention was made of the children’s plain and faney-dress dance to be held during the next school holidays, and it was decided to make necessary arrangements at the next meeting. The treasurer submitted the financial statement showing a credit balance of £6l 9s 7d, and accounts ineluding nurses’ salaries, emulsion, etc., totalling £lO5 0s 8d were passed for payment.
