CORRESPONDENCE.

TARANAKI ELECTRIC POWER BOARD.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —Your correspondent, “Anon,” writing from Stratford, dealing with the Taranaki Electric Power Board, has given .figures regarding estimates, and calling attention to the board’s delinquincics iii a somewhat lengthy statement. n

No doubt at the meeting of country ratepayers to be held in Stratford ’’shortly, “Anon” will be given full opportunity to deal with the members of the board, and I trust he will take full advantage of this. I am, however, in some doubt as to whether my friend “Anon” will feel equal to the occasion. •Surely a public meeting of this kind is the place to ventilate these matters. “If “Anon” is purely a Stratford borough ratepayer, lie need not worry in regard to the position, as Stratford borough ratepayers are not called upon to pledge their properties for loans or pay rates or take any risks in the matter whatsoever. This possibly will be a satisfaction to the ratepayers concerned.

It will be very interesting if our friend will advise the board at the meeting above referred to as to where money is to be obtained at 5? per cent., or even lees. I have not the time to criticise further, and feel sure that your space is too valuable to ask for much indulgence in this way. Our friend “Anon,’ however, is not quite so modest in this respect, his long letter having also appeared in the Stratford Evening Post on Monday,- June 17 inst. Perhaps “Anon” is it keen believer in advertising on the cheap.—l am, etc., RATEPAYER.
