MILLIONAIRE’S CRUISE.
A STEWARD VANISHES. PEARLS AND LETTERS MISSING. London, March 22. Three -mysteries were reported -by the White Star liner Homeric when she landed a party of American millionaires at Southampton from a Mediterranean cruise on Saturday. On Thursday night, a bedroom steward named Walter Barker, of Southampton, was missed from the ship. It is supposed that he fell overboard in the darkness. Next it was discovered that a string of pearls valued at £3OO had been lost by Mrs. Helen Gordon, wife of Captain Herbert Gordon, of Berrington Hall, Cross Houses, Shrewsbury. It is thought she dropped them when playing deck games. On Friday certain letters were lost from the ship, in consequence of which she was hoarded in Cowes Roads bypolice officers, who made inquiries as she proceeded to dock. The American millionaires, who arrived after an 11,000 miles pleasure cruise, are to make a hustling visit to London and other parts of the country, some going as far north as Inverness, before starting on the last lap of their journey home in the White Star Majestic, which leaves Southampton for New York on Wednesday. Over £lOO,OOO was spent in souvenirs by the Homeric’s passengers at various ports visited, purchases including a baby camel and a baby cart sueh as is used on the streets of Palmero. ,
