ELTHAM NEWS.

THE PLUNKET SOCIETY, (From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of iihe Phmket Committee was held in the rooms on Tuesday, when there were present: MesWeir, Cover, Avery, Bridger, Burton, dames Wood (chair), Campbell, Picard, Best, Bary and Walsh. Apologies were received from Mesdames Foord, Phillips, Crump, A. Stewart, Morton, Stunners, J. Stewart, Ware, Carson, McDonald, May and Drayton. A donation of £1 was received from Mrs. "Sutherland. The president reported that the sum of £6 had been realised in connection with the lecture given by the Drs. Gordon, and instructed that a letter be written to the Chamber of Commerce thanking them for donating the proceeds to the society. It was decided that Mesdames Wood, Weir and Walsh be appointed delegates to the Plunket conference to be held in Hawera on July 1. At the request of Mr. Bridger the committee decided to assist in keeping the ladies’ rest room in order. The nurse’s report for the month was as follows: —Number of cases on the books, 286; new cases, 6; visits to homes. 39; visits to rooms, adults 84, babies 72, children 34. GENERAL ITEMS. Eleven successive frosts have been experienced in Eltliam, but the spell broke on Wednesday night, when there was every indication of rain. Users of electric light and power will be more than pleased when a change in the weather sets in, for the shortage of power caused by the lack of rain is becoming a serious matter. It has already been the cause of several men on piecework being thrown out of employment, and many businesses are severely handicapped by the continual failure of the lighting system. The Eltliam Musical Society has now received the scores of that pretty little opera “Dorothy,” and practice has commenced in earnest. The society has not yet attained its full strength, and a lack of sufficient male voices is no doubt a matter that will soon be remedied. At the last meeting of the Eltham Druids’ Lodge the following officers were installed:—Junior Past Arch, Bro. H. Patterson; Arch Druid, Bro. W. J. Williams; Vice Arch Druid, Bro. A. Hargreaves; J.G., Bro. A. Clement; 0.G., Bro. 0. Voight; Treasurer, Bro. E. Diver; Secretary, Bro. T. F. Chalmers; A.D.B.’s, Bros. J. Talbot and A. R. Egglestone; V.A.B.’s, Bros. J. and W. H. Kenny.
