Good fat cattle sold at improved rates Store Sheep.—A reduced entry comprised of mostly North Island ewes with local and Marlborough wethers. Fat Lambs.—2 Boo were yarded. There was a slightly low*er range of values in sympathy with reduced rates for export. Extra prime heavy lambs sold at up to 335; prime heavy lambs, up to 33s 4d; prime heavy lambs, 28s 6d to 31s; medium weight prime lambs, 26s to 29s 6d; medium quality lambs, 23s 6d to 255; light lambs, 21s to 235. Fat Sheep.—A heavy entry of 12 races. There was a steady sale but generally on a lower basis for all classes by up to Is over the earlier stages of the sale and Is 6d oi er the final part. A few North Island wethers sold at 36s lOd. Export buyers secured a good share of the lighter ewes. Extra prime wethers made 36s to 37s 4d; prime wethers, .833 to 355; medium wethers, 29s to 32s 6d; light wethers, 26s 6d to 28s 6d; extra prime ewes, 28s to 31s Id; prime ewes, 24s 6d to 27s 6d; medium ewes, 20s 6d to 245; light ewes, 16s 6d to 20s; aged ewes, 12s 6d to 16s.

Fat Cattle.—Another very heavy entry comprised 590 head. The bulk were cows. Good steers and heifer and beef were better by 203 per head, cows selling with difficulty over the final stages. Best ox beef made to 43s per 1001 b; prime, 38s 6d to 41s 6d; medium quality and good cow beef, 30s to 32s 6d; inferior, 26s 6d to 29s 6d; and rough down to 255. Extra heavy steers made to £2l 12s 6d; prime heavy steers. £l6 10s to £lB 10s; prime medium weight steers, £l5 to £l6 15s; medium quality steers, £ll 10s to £l4 10s; light steers, £9 10s to £ll ss; rough steers, £7 10s to £9 ss; extra prune heifers, to £l3 17s 6d; prime heifers, £9 5s to £ll 10s; ordinary heifers, £7 to £6; light heifers*, £4 15s to £6 15s; extra prime cows to £l4 2s 6d; prime cows, £8 10s to £lO 10s; ordinary cows, £5 10s to £8 ss; rough cows, £3 to £4 10s. Vealers.—Killable stuff sold at an advance. Good runners made to £6 10s; others, £4 to £5 15s; best calves, 50s to 70s; others, 103 to 455. Store Cattle.—A few steer lines were included and sold well. Four-year steers made £6 12s 6d to £9 2s 6d; 2-year steers to £7; cows. 20s to 50s. Dairy Cattle. —Good fresh cows sold briskly, inferior being neglected. Best springers made £lO to £l4 10s; others, £4 10s to £9; best heifers, £6 10s to £8 10s; others,> £4 to £6 10s.

Fat Pigs.—A good sale. Choppers, £3 10s to £6 10s; baconers, £3 17s 6d to £6 5; average price per lb, 8d to BJAd;8 J Ad; porkers, 47s to 725; average price per lb, 8d to 9d. Store Pigs. —A small entry and no change in values. Weaners, 9s to 14s; best, to 18s; slips, 23s to 295; stores, 33s to 435. BURNSIDE STOCK SALES. Dunedin, May 5. At the Burnside stock sale to-day prices for sheep were again easier. The entry included 552 stores. The remainder of the market showed no great change. Fat Cattle. —A yarding of 353 head compared with 266 last week. There was a fair proportion of well conditioned cows and heifers. and some rough sorts, with a fair balance of heavy prime bullocks. Prime lightweight ox beef sold at from 35s to 40s; medium quality, to 32s 6d; heifer beef, to 30s; and cows, from 20s to 255; prime bullocks, £l7 to £lB 15s; lighter, £ll 10s to £l5 10s; prime heifers, £7 to £11; cows, £6 17s 6d to £9 15s. Sheep.—-An entry of 2597 head. All classes were represented. Ewes of medium class were predominant and heavy wethers were in fair supply, but there were comparatively few heavy ewes. Light wethers were fairly well represented. Export buyers were indifferent and the market

was easier all round. Values at the lower rales of last week’s sale ruled for heavy ■wethers, and htlier classes were Is to 2s easier. Ewes showed a greater decline. Prime handyweight wether* sold up to sd; extra heavy wethers, to 4%d; prime ewes, to 4d; light ewes, to 3d. Extra prime heavy wethers made from 37s 3d to 39s 3d; prime, 33s to 35s Cd; lighter sorts, 25s 3d to 2Ss. Extra prime heavy ewes made up to 335; medium, 18s to 23s 9d; light, las Cd to 16s 9d. Eat Lambs. —Au entry of 507 made up of some very fair to prime heavy animals and a few unfinished sorts. The demand wax much the same as that at last week’s sale:—Heavy butcher’s lambs made from 28s to 31s; prime, 26s to 27s 6d; medium, 23s 9d to 25s 3d; prime lamb sold on a basis of from 8d to 9 % d ’ Store Cattle. —About 270 were yarded, comprised (all but an odd pen of steers) of fair sorts of cows.
