OBITUARY.
MR. FRANCIS OLIVER. The death of Mr. Francis (Frank! Oliver at the Patea hospital on February 5, aged 86 years, has still further reduced the ranks of colonists who arrived at Taranaki in the Amelia Thompson on September 3, 1841. He is survived by four sons and four daughters, his wife having died about eleven years ago. The sons are Messrs. C. E. Oliver (Lepperton), F. T. Oliver (Alton), W. A. Oliver (Carrington Road, New Plymouth) and H. L. Oliver (Wellington). The daughters are, Mrs. G. Taylor (Wellington), Mrs. W. Chatterton (Whenuakura), Mrs. W. Andrews (Wanganui), and Mrs. G. J. Knauff (Mangorei, New Plymouth). There are thirty-two grand children. The late Mr. Oliver took an active part in the early’ engagements with the Maoris, and was a member of the Taranaki Rifle Volunteers from 18-59 to 1864. During the whole of this period he was under arms under Captains Watt, Webster, Good and Black and was stationed at New Plymouth and Omata. He took part in the following engagements: Waireka, Mahoetahi, Te Kaikihi, Huirangi, Huirangi, Te Kaitaki, Manutabi, Sentry HUI and Hangar aka.
