NAVAL OIL LEASES.
.MORE ABOUT AMERICAN SCANDAL DEMURRERS OVERRULED. Ay Telegraph—Fiea* Assn —Copyright. Received Feb. 16, 8.25 p.m. Washington, Feb. 15. Mr. Justice Stafford, of the district of Columbia Supreme Court, ruled that Fall and Doheny must stand their trial in tho criminal court on a charge of conspiring to defraud the United States through the naval oil leases granted Doheny by Fall.
Mr. Justice Stafford overruled demurrens filed by defendants, and held that the indictments were valid. The demurrers contended that the Secretary of the Navy was empowered by law to negotiate tha leases on the naval reserves, and not Fall. Consequently the leases granted by Fall were null and void; hence they could not damage or defraud the United States. Mr. Justice Stafford likewise overruled the demurrer of Harry Sinclair, who will b« tried in the same court with Fall and Doheny.
