BETTER PAY FOR CLERGYMEN.

The Church Assembly appointed a committee to inquire into the capital involved by a proposal to pay parochial clergy a minimum of £4OO a year. The Rev. A. H. Hartridge said the parochial clergy’s income in recent years had increased by £2,500,000 a year. While they did not desire affluence, they wished to avoid the depths of poverty. There was at present, he said, widespread discontent and anxiety.
