FIREWORKS DISPLAY AND GUY FAWKES COMPETITION.
Keen interest has been aroused amongst the boys of the district by the announcement that a large display of fireworks and a Guy Fawkes competition is to be held to-morrow (Thursday) night. The sth of November, of course, noted for its miniature bombardments and the traditional cry of “Guy Fawkes, Guy, stick him up on high.” This, however, is probably the first occasion that a competition of “guys” has been announced, and, to make it more attractive, substantial prizes are being awarded. Boys are invited to enter in groups of three, no entry fee being charged. All groups entering are to form into a procession and parade behind the band from the Post Office to the Pukekura Park, at 7.30 sharp. The event, which is being promoted by the Pukekura Park Board, should prove most attractive for after arrival at the park there is to be a h»£e display of fireworks by the famous Wainoni Park Fireworks Company, who are giving large displays in Dunedin during the coming exhibition period. The latest pyrotechnical novelties are to be included in next Thursday’s display. Altogether, the parade of “guys” and the display should attract a very numerous attendance for such a novelty in entertainment is rarely presented. Many brilliant set pieces and also mechanical sets, together with the ever popular rockets and aerial shells will be seen. The whole will conclude with a monster bonfire and explosion of “guys.” Men and women to-day are able to make considerable savings in tailors and dressmakers’ bills. This is made possible by having your soiled or faded clothes dry cleaned or steam dyed.
