SAILORS IN ORCHESTRA.
FROM WARSHIP TO CABARET. DESERTERS FROM THE FLEET.-' .COURT CASE THE SEQUEL, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Lasft Night. a story telling how seven Americans forsook life on the ocean for positions as members of an orchestra at- a Wellington cabaret, was unfolded in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Mary Campbell, proprietress of the cabaret-, sued Sims Millar, a former member of the crew of the U.S.'S. Oklahoma, who with six comrades left th? ship in order to play in the orchestra. The seven men were engaged at £'so a ‘week, and they signed a contract not to engage in other business. The agreement said they were liable to forfeit £5O should they not comply with the conditions of the contract. Tt was alleged that Millar broke the contract and joined the “Kid Boots” company. . The defence was that the men were deserters and that the defendant was an infant and therefore the contract was illegal. The men said they stayed at a place on the hills while bn shore leave and dodged, the shore- patrols. The case was adjourned.
