THE TARANAKI SEAT.

THE LABOUR CAMPAIGN. (Contributed.) The Labour candidate for the Taranaki seat, Mr. W. A. Sheat, continued his campaign at Tataraimaka last evening, when he addressed a meeting presided over by Mr. Young. The candidate spoke on the lines of his previous addresses, outlining the various planks in the Labour platform, particularly referring to the financial policy of the party. The result of recent financial legislation had been a most inequitable distribution of the burden of taxation. The candidate contended that no Government could hold out any real hope of a reduction of the total amount of taxation, unless it contemplated cutting expenditure on such services as education and public health. Recent reductions had been t<»tally illusory, being more than balanced by increases in other directions. The candidate answered a number of questions at the close of his address and the meeting closed with votes of thanks to the speaker and the chairman.
