BUSINESS IN COURT.
INCREASE LAST QUARTER. An Increase of business for the New My mouth Magistrate's Court was relorded In the quarter ended September 80 compared with the corresponding quarter of last year. The details are: Civil cases.—Plaints issued, 294 (in 1624, 263); amount sued for. £4271 ’ls lOd ( £3223 4s 3d); cases tried, 171 (134); amount sued for in cases tried, £1946 19s Id ( £«5292 12s 6d i ; amountrecovered, £1738 Is Li ( £2122 Os 4d>. Criminal Business.—Arrests made, 44 (1924, 29); summonses issued, 208 (179) ; total, 252 (208) ; juveniles dej.lt with, 14 (4). Included in these returns were five women and two girls. The total number of civil sittings held was 17, of which one was taken by Listices of the Peace. The criminal sittings totalled 40. Justices presiding over 14. Nine defended civil actions were heard before the magistrate and one before J .P.’s. Three distress warrants were issued and 15 warrants were executed. Judgment summonses issued totalled 52. Civil fees collected amounted to £231 13s, and licensing fees to ll». Criminal fees paid in stamps amounted to £47 14s GJ, and fines to £268 15s. The pension returns are: New pensions granted 29, refused 1, Jading 29.
