CHARGE OF ARSON.

A TEACHER ACQUITTED. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 7. In the Magistrate’s Court to-day a young teacher, Leonard Arthur Fielder, was charged with wilfully attempting to set fire to the Clifton Terrace School. Evidence was given that a packet of powder with a lighted cord attached was found in a bundle of papers in the male teachers’ room. Accused had been seen to leave the room just previously. Accused, who w’as given a good character by various witnesses, said he was playing with gunpowder and lighted the cord, and when he heard someone coming threw it away, thinking the action would seem foolish. He denied any intention of damage, and the Justices diemissed the case.
