REGULAR SUPPLY NEEDED. GOVERNOR GENERALS ADVICE. By Telegraph.—Press Asscciation. Hastings, Last Night. At the Chamber of Commerce luncheon to-day, at which he was the guest of honour, the Governor-General (Sir Charles Fergus son) said that during the few months he had been in the Dominions he had not seen as much of the country as he would have liked. He considered the best plan was to pay flying visits to each district and later pay longer visits to see the country in greater detail. The people in Great Britain were awakening to the high standard of New Zealand products, Hie Excellency said, but if those products were to meet with the success they deserved, regularity of supply would have to tie assured as there were many people in England who would give preference to an article which they knew to be inferior, but of which they would be assured of receiving a regular supply. It was for this reason that one was ao horrified at the seriousness of the present shipping situation. It was not for him to say anything regarding the right or the wrong of the matter, but it was questionable that the regularity of supply was receiving a eetback, from which it would take years to re- ■ cover. It could only be hoped that wiser counsels would prevail and that the difficult situation would be straightened out. Their Excellencies, Miss Fergusson and her brother and Major Haviland, who have had a strenuous three days here visiting schools in the daytime and attending social functions at night, return by to-morrow’s express to Wellington. They visit this district again on October 21, when His Excellency will open the new showgrounds at Hastings for the A. and P. Society’s spring show.
