PEDIGREE JERSEYS.

SILVERLEY HERD DISPERSAL. BRISK sale for calves. MANY LOTS PASSED IN’. Prices at Mr, J. S. Jones’ sale of pedigree Jersey cattle at Bell Block yesterday were not up to the expectations roused by the New Plymouth Jersey Breeders’ Club sale on the previous day. Of a total of '36 animals catalogued, nineteen were disposed of at au average.price of 234gns. The catalogue stated that the sale was to be unreserved, but the vendor intimated early in the sale that liia instructions had been misinterpreted, and he wished to exercise the right of a reserve price on every lot should it fail to reach a satisfactory price. No objection was made by the buyers when the application was put to them. The highest price of the day was 37 guineas, paid by Mr. C. H. Weston for the six-year-old cow Silverley’s Ambition (Achievement of Willowbank — Juno). Five cows disposed of averaged 31 guineas, five bull calves 16 guineas, five heifer calves 23A guineas, two bulls 18 guineas and two heifers 29J guineas. The calves sold very well, a noticeable feature of the sale being the preference ol the buyers for the blood of the imported sire Xenia’s Oxford Imd, the progeny of which invariably excited keen competition. A number of the lots were passed in at substantial reserves. For Willowbank Beauty (Achievement of Willowbank—'Delight of Willowbank) Mr. A. J. Luxton bid 95 guineas, but 150 guineas vas then stated to be the bedrock price. Another cow, ’Willowbank Wonder (Grannie’s Merry General —Lady Alison) was passed in, the reserve being 100 guineas, the same being the case with Abberly Rita (Abberly Duke—Abbe rly Rose), The sale v.as conducted by Messrs.
