The tenacity of the police in tracing breakers of even the most trivial laws was strikingly illustrated at the Eltham Court yesterday, when the owner of a motor-car wanted by the Eltham police for speeding was traced by means of his number through 17 towns and cities. The warrant left Eltham and went to Hawera, whence it came to New Plymouth. From there it travelled to Wellington, and gradually returned to New Plymouth via Petone, Palmerston North and Feilding. Its next journey was in a northerly direction to Ngaruawahia, Cambridge, Huntly and back to Wellington. The warrant was then returned to New Plymouth, but further information caused it to be forwarded to Te Arolia, Freeman’s Bay (Auckland), Pukekohe and Waiuku, to be eventually served in Pukekohe again. A parasite has apparently attacked the vines, and, from the appeal ance of some bushes shown a Daily News’ representative the other day, with considerable success. The biggest and strongest roots have first succumbed, and the parasite is now bestowing its attention upon the smaller and more isolated ones. Farmers who have blackberry on their places are observing the combat between parasite and vine with much interest. If the parasite continues its operations in the way it has begun then a brighter day is dawning for many a dairy farmer. Attention is drawn to an advertisement in another column of this paper wherein the Railway Department invite tenders for purchase of land in Molesworth and Leach Streets.
