SOUTH TARANAKI PLAY, WEDNESDAY COMPETITION. FRASER ROAD LEADING. (From Our Own Reporter.) Hawera, July 22, The South' Taranaki Wednesday football competition was concluded to-day, Fraser Road heading the list of championship points, One, and possibly more, protests have yet to be considered, however, so that Fraser Road, City A and Ohangai have yet a chance of winning the Daily News shield as they are all within a few points of one another. In extremely wet weather to-day Fraser Road defeated City B by five points to nil, City A beat Normanby by three points to nil, Whareroa and Ohangai drew with no score, and the fixture between Manaia and Tokaora was not played REPRESENTATIVE TRIAL. NORTH V. SOUTH TO-DAY. The match between teams representing North and South Taranaki, which is to take place at Stratford to-day, should produce some good football, as on paper the teams seem very evenly matched. The fixture has always provoked considerable interest, and, given fine weather, there should be a good attendance at Victoria Park. The form shown by the players in this match will no doubt have considerable influence with the selectors when they pick the team to play Wanganui and later to go on tour. Not a little interest will be taken in the showing of the two All Black centre three-quarters, Brown and Johnson, and it is to be hoped that Johnson will be sufficiently recovered from the injury he received last Saturday to take the field. The withdrawal of Kivell and Walter in order that they might play for the North Island against South at Invercargill has materially weakened the North Taranaki pack, but Bond and Young, who replace them, have shown good form this season. A curtain raiser to the big match will be the meeting between New Plymouth Technical School and Stratford Technical High School. NORTH TARANAKI GAMES. Writes our Urenui correspondent:The Urenui recreation ground was on Saturday last the 'Scene of a very interesting football match between teams representing Uruti and Okoke. A very close game resulted in a win for the latter club by six pointe to 5. Mr. V. Simpson efficiently acted as referee. Up to date Okoke have played five contests this season, three being won and two drawn. It is understood they will play their return match with Waitoitoi next week, when a keen struggle is anticipated. Another draw (making the fourth this season) was secured by the Urenui first juniors in the match against Clifton at Waitara on Saturday last. This places the former a point behind Tukapa juniors in the competition, and the local boys will have to keep moving to hold their own from this out. It is somewhat unfortunate for this team that a third round is being played, as with the exception of one or two players the remainder are engaged in dairying, and as the cows are now commencing to come into profit it makes it a difficult matter for the Urenui Club to place a full team in the field, and thus considerably decreases their chance of securing the championship.
