George Wheeler, secretary of the help for consumptives art union, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on a charge of stealing 14,000 tickets, the property of the committee. The police gave evidence that accused admitted he put the butts of these tickets in the barrel, and that they were drawn, securing prizes to the value of several hundred pounds. The police found 21,000 tickets which had been sold to the public, a large number of butts of which had been burned. These, therefore, had not a chance in the draw. The Attorney-General is considering the question of redrawing the arc union.
