FUNDS FOR THE BAND
QUEEN CARNIVAL SCHEME. PLANS FOR CAMPAIGN. A combined meeting of all the committees elected in connection with the queen carnival which is being organised for the purpose of raising funds for the Citizens’ Band and others interested in the movement, was held at the band room last Mr. J. Brown presiding over a large and representative attendance. It was decided to commence the campaign by holding a masquerade ball in the Coronation Hall at a date to be arranged. Mr. Brown said that the main object of calling the meeting was to organise a large combined function, the proceeds of which would be divided equally among the three queen carnival candidates. As a suggestion he thought that probably a ball would be the most remunerative, -but whatever forin the function took it should not be an affair which would be very expensive and left little to be set aside for the band funds.
Mr. C. Smith (organiser) said he would like to see a ball held similar to that organised by the Fire Brigade recently.
It was decided to open the campaign by holding a masquerade ball in the Coronation Hall, the first part of the evening, 7.30 to 9 p.m., to be devoted to dances for children. The date on which to hold the function was not decided upon, but it was suggested that it should be held on some night in the school holidays. The prices were fixed at 3s tid for men, 2s for ladies and Is for children.
The various committees were instructed to elect two representatives each to form a general committee to organise the ball.
Mr. Smith reported that all the tickets in connection with the campaign would be ready to-day and their disposal would be pushed forward immediately.
