EMPIRE CONFERENCE. MANY MATTERS DISCUSSED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—-Copyright. London, July 12. The conference of women oi the British Commonwealth, at which women’s organisations in overseas Dominions were well represented, discussed the inequalities of the marriage laws of the Dominions and adopted a resolution demanding that, the Dominions legislate along the lines of the resolution adopted by the House of Commons, enabling British women to make declarations in tl\e cases of marriages with aliens and also protesting against the loss of status of women from other parts of the Commonwealth on entering South Africa and the province of Quebec, and calling on the Governments of those countries to grant women’s suffrage. . Other resolutions were adopted .demanding economic equality for womep, legisla tipn providing for equal pay for equal Work a free field and the removal of the obstacles against the employment of married women, also basing protective legislation upon the nature of the work a.id not upon sex. The Commonwealth League is a new body under the secretaryship of Miss Collison, of Australia, the idea of which is to ; collaborate with overseas women’s organisations to advance the women’s standpoint.
