INTERNATIONAL MATCHES. Lawn tennis is beating all records as an international game. On one day this week as many as ten nations were taking part In Davis Cup matches, the the teams representing Great Britain, Poland, Holland, Czeeno-Slovakia, Belgium, India, Ireland, Austria, Sweden and Switzerland. Truly has the game spread its frontiers all over the world. Unhappily, there is no prospect at present of our champions regaining their supremacy owing to the war having retarded the progress of the young players, but the outlook is more encouraging than it was two or three years ago, when the veteran had to be relied upon. The remarkable growth of hard-court play has undoubtedly improved the position, and, though we may have to waif some time before another Doherty is discovered, the young players are advancing. The first of the grass court tournaments is now in progress; and it is to be a very busy season, In addition to the championships at Wimbledon, there is to be a match between England and America at Eastbourne. And besides that there is already a team of Australian ladies here, and they also are to. be met in a match. Before these two fixtures are played, British representatives are to take part in the French ehampionships at St. Cloud, Paris. The players chosen are •0. G. Eames, G. R, O, Crole Rees, Miss K. MeKane, Mrs. Msllquham, Miss E. L. Colyer, and Miss E. H. Harvey. At the end of the first-class tournament ■season, an English woman's team is to visit Canada and America. Two players already selected for this tour aie Mrs. Lambert Chambers, who will be the captain, and Miss MeKane.
