LAWN TENNIS.
INTERNATIONAL MATCHES. Lawn tennis is beating all records as an international game. On one day this week as many as ten nations were taking part In Davis Cup matches, the the teams representing Great Britain, Poland, Holland, Czeeno-Slovakia, Belgium, India, Ireland, Austria, Sweden and Switzerland. The remarkable growth of hard-court play has undoubtedly improved the position, and, though we may have to waif some time before another Doherty is discovered, the young players are advancing. The first of the grass court tournaments is now in progress; and it is to be a very busy season, In addition to the championships at Wimbledon, there is to be a match between England and America at Eastbourne. And besides that there is already a team of Australian ladies here, and they also are to. be met in a match. Before these two fixtures are played, British representatives are to take part in the French ehampionships at St. Cloud, Paris. The players chosen are •0. G. Eames, G. R, O, Crole Rees, Miss K.
