NEW PLYMOUTH SHOW.

EXTRA STALLS WANTED. SUC’G'ESS OF WINTER FUNCTION, 4 MORE SPACE FOR MOTORS, Expressions of satisfaction at the sue cess of the recent winter show held at New Plymouth, and particularly of th< motor display, were heard from numerous quarters at the meeting of the general committee of the Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural (Society held yesterday. The chairman (Mr. W. B. Giant) reported that a deputation representing the motor trade had waited on the executive to discuss ways and means of obtaining more space and a better motor display at next year’s show, and he pointed out that it appeared as if not one but two additional halls were urgently required to cope with the increasing demands for space. Mr. W. B. Grant presided at the meeting, others present being Messrs. H. C. Sampson, A. T. Moore, J. H. Allen. P, J. Petersen, W. H. Jury. H. Stonex, F. Dodunski, J. A. Kurth, T. Wilson, R. F Lye, H. H. Olsen, A. P. Lister and A. R. Gudopp. A report on the previous meeting of the executive stated that a deputation consisting of Messrs. J. H. Ashton, P. E. Stainton, and L. H. Johnson, representing the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Motor Trade Association, had waited on the executive to discuss next j car's winter show. Mr. Ashton had stated that the motor trades were pleased with the success of the recent motor show. They had previously discussed the matter themselves, and thought that if the Agricultural Society could meet them in certain requirements, a much more extensive motor show could be arranged. A MOTOR ATMOSPHERE. Mr. Ashton had pointed out that the lust essential of a successful motor show was to create a motor atmosphere. This could best be created by experts in the business, and if the society could see its way to allot the Motor Trade Association the required space and give them a free hand to decorate it, it would be much appreciated by the trade. They wished their own architect to lay out the motor show, which would relieve the society of a good deal of work. Every display would be up to the standard set by the association, thus ensuring that there would be only first-class displays. The motor traders would want as much space as they had this year, and more if possible. They would like a whole hall to themselves if possible.

He understood that the society were contemplating erecting at least one more hall to meet the needs of the show. The motor traders could do with more space, and were prepared to join in and meet the society in any way they could. The committee were very pleased indeed with the success of the motor show, said Mr. Grant (president of the Agricultural Society), and its general excellence had been favourably commented on by visitors. The committee were pleased to note that although a suggestion had been made that a motor show be held apart from the winter show, the motor traders preferred to throw in their lot with the society and hold both shows together. The success ot the recent show, both from tha sceiety’s point of view and that of tha exhibitors, had exceeded all expectations Quite a number of exhibitors had indicated that they would require more space next year, said Mr. Grant, so the society was already faced with the problem of how to finance one more hall at least. Now that the motor traders were after more space it was quite evident, that one more hall would not be sufficient to enable the society to comply with all requests. The meeting decided to set up a subcommittee consisting of Messrs. Grant, Browne, Bagley, Sampson and Wilson to confer with representatives of the motor trade, and to draw up a report to be submitted to a future meeting of tha general committee. OTHER BUSINESS. The following new members were elected: Messrs. T. Cameron, J. Bennett and H. Bowen (New Plymouth), S. Adams (Westown), G. H. Kebbell (Frankleigh Park) and E. Tanner (Fitaroy). A vote of thanks was passed to the ladies of the Tataraimaka district for organising a social to raise funds for obtaining glass cases for the cookery section at the show. The social had realised £l3. Special mention was mads of the work of Afr. and Mrs. R. H, Gattenby in this connection. Votes of thanks were also accorded to the judges and stewards at the recent show, and those who had donated exhibits to the society. The chairman referred in eulogistic terms to the publicity given to the show by the local Press, and they were accorded a vote of thanks. A resolution uas passed recommending the incoming committee to set up a sub-committee to deal with the publicity aspect at the next show.
