WAITARA NEWS.
THE JUNE TEA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, July 3. The annual function known as the “June tea” was held in St. John's Hall on Thursday evening. At 5.30 the five tables, which were prettily arranged, were severely taxed, and those who waited on tlris vast crowd were kept busy. At the conclusion of the repast a large and varied programme of songs, recitations and musical items was given, including a comic musical sketch, in character, by four ladies and two gentlemen under Mr. Herbert Joll’s direction. A one-act play also was given by Messrs J. Ogle, W. JoII, J. Ellis. G. Haynies and Miss Ogie. During the evening the Rev. G. H. Gavin took the opportunity of thanking Mr. G. Lyall on behalf of the parish for his services as choir conductor. GENERAL ITEMS. At a committee meeting of the Waitara Bowling Club, Mr. W. Sampson was appointed warden of the green for the ensuing year, Mr. Geo. Marshall, representing the committee, to be associated with him. It is contemplated during the coming season to improve the surroundings by planting shrubs, etc* The pavilion will also be repaired and improved. Drs. Adamson and Barclay, and Mr. W. R. Johns have promised to give periodical lectures on behalf of °the Red Cross 'Society. These should be instructive and of much value to the community.
