Story in Pictures

Polly, Peter and Wallaby

You will remember the joke Polly, Gwendoline and Wallaby played on Richard. Richard was so annoyed that he refused to speak to them. The three friends, who are really very fond of Richard, did not like it at all.

They held a meeting about it, and Polly hatched a little scheme. “We'll teach him not to be bad tempered,” she said, and then explained another joke they would play on Richard. But they did not know that Richard was listening outside the window.

Polly’s idea was to open the door just a little and place a bcwl of water on top, so that when Richard came into the room it would fall down and give him such a wetting! In all innocence they proceeded to carry out their little scheme, quite unaware that Richard knew all about it.

When all was ready Gwendoline popped out of the window to fetch lichard. “Just say I want to speak to him," said Polly, “and mind he comes i through the doer first, or you will get the wetting."

Polly and Wallaby waited for Richard, expecting him to get such a bath. But Richard was too wise. “What do you want?" he asked, and just sidled into the room without opening the door wide. Artful Richard. I wonder what he has in his mind?

This picture will show you. Richard flung the door wide open, and down came the bcwl of water all over poor Gwendoline. She was angry, and was inclined to blaime Polly, who thought it a better joke than ever. However, it made Richard so good tempered that they all became friends once again.
