WELLINGTON RACES. TRAINING NOTES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 2. The heavy rain and gait last night in the Hutt Valley had left its effect on ■the Trentham course, which this morning was in a water-logged condition. The ■work, despite the dismal conditions underfoot and drizzling rain, was not uninteresting. The trial grass was available for fast work. Joybird and Bonny Dawn were first to appear, but they were given only pace work on the sand, Potanui hit out well when sent for half-pace work on the sand. His stablemates Glenidle and Highflown were allotted similar tasks, and Highflown was very keen to go on at a faster pace. Weneh was sent for a working gallop over six furlongs, but the soft track was slowing her up at the end. Waltea and Ardfinnan finished practically on terms at the end of five furlongs run in Iniin 14see., the last four taking 59sec. Arrowboy was well clear of Gold Dollar at the end of half a mile run in limn 1 2-osec. ■Dick (C. Butler) and Maunga (H. Griffith) were together at the end of a mile, which took 2min 10 3-ssec. Bright Eyes was in front of Apaehe at the completion of half a mile which took 1 min. Kuhio had to be held back.to Hyama and Mutu when galloping four furlongs in 58 4-osee. Eonmark (A. McMullan) was schooled over three hurdles, afterwards doing pace work. He jumped well. Many Colours (P. Mcßrearty), Lucullent (N. Rowe) and Kendall (E. Stanway) were sent over three hurdles. Many Colours were inelined to run' about at his fences and Kendall appeared to do best, and only with difficulty could be pulled up. •Sanforte hit out freely enough when doing pace work on the sand. He appears to make a noise now. H. Griffiths, on Black Art, alone, galloped a mile in 2min Bsec, the first half taking Imin 1 2-ssec. He appeared to have had enough at the finish, but was not knocked about. Peggy Ford sprinted down the straight, and Tinohari galloped three furlongs in 44 4-ssee. Lady Gay took Inrin 4sec to cover half a mile, after going a similar distance at a good three-quarter pace. White Comet was going much beWer than Heisler at the end of six furlongs, which took Imin 27see, the first three being run in 31 see. Debate alone ran 5 furlongs in Imin Ksee, going well. Monday, who was sprinted, was last to work. S. Reid sent bis horses, apart from the rising two-year-olds, for work on *he hills. 12th TARANAKI STAKES. THE ENTRIES.
