FEDERATION OF FACTORIES. STANDARDISATION OF ACCOUNTS. (SCIENTIST AT LABORATORY. (From Our Own Reporter). Hawera, June 22. The long discussed question of standardised accounts and statements of statistics for co-operative dairy factories is taking tangible shape in South Taranaki. A special meeting of the Federation of Taranaki Co-operative Dairy Factories at Hawera to-day thoroughly discussed and revised a draft of the proposal of standardised accounts and statements, as submitted by a special committee consisting of Messrs. G. A. Duncan, A. Lees, and T. J. Salmon. Finality was reached so far as the Federation was concerned, and the next step will be to submit the revised draft to the individual factories for their consideration. The favourable reception of the scheme by the Federation delegates indicates that the proposal will be adopted by the various factories without much opposition. Fifteen applications for the position of scientist at the dairy research laboratory to be established were* placed before the meeting, but no finality was reached with regard to these. THE WINTER SHOW. .Preparations for next week's big show are proceeding apace, and already°many of the stalls are assuming shape. A large quantity of butter and cheese has arrived from all parts of the Dominion, and this is now being effectively staged in the upstairs portion of the Lloyd George Hall. The progress made with the Publicity Department’s exhibit, which occupies the whole of one room, gives foretaste of ii striking display. Beautiful views of all the important scenic attractions, with Mount Egmont taking pride of ■place, many interesting (booklets and folders, and all the various kinds of publicity matter go to make up an arresting display. THE PIPE BAND. The work of the Hawera Highland Pipe Band, at the first of a series of piping competitions on Saturday night, evoked unstinted praise from the judge, Mr. Gower, of Eltham. The placings for the medal presented by Pipe-Major Crawford were: Pipe-Sergeant Henson 1, Piper Miller 2, Piper Fletcher 3. Prior to the competitions the band met a favourable recepution when it paraded High Street. GENERAL ITEMS. The Dr. Barnado’s Homes will benefit to the extent of £l9 13s Id as a result of the collections of the Hawera branch of the Young Helpers’ Leagu4, disclosed at the half-yearly box-opening ceremony on Saturday.
