MOUNTED RIFLES CAMP.

2nd QUEEN ALEXANDRA'S. UNDER CANVAS AT WAVERLEY. Members of the 2nd Queen Alexandra’s Mounted Rifles Regiment go into camp at Waverley to-day (Monday). Although this is the second camp held since the war, it is the first occasion since the war on which the regiment have entered a camp mounted. The men will be under canvas from to-day until next Monday, June 29. Members from as far north as Urenui and as far south at Wanganui will attend, making a total of 25 officers and 370 other ranks. Of this number it is estimated about 80 per cent, will be mounted. Included in the 370 will be the Queen Alexandra’s Band of Wanganui. Special arrangements have been made by the Defence Department for transportation to and from the camp, and for those drawn from the northern end a special train leaves New Plymouth this morning at 11 o’clock. A similar provision has been made for those men arriving from the south by a train leaving Wanganui on the same day at 9.30 a.m. The camp is being held on Mr. Bremer’s property at Waverley, in conjunction with the Waverley Racecourse and buildings. Lieut.-Colonel D. Munro is in command, and associated with him will be Captain Stewart, brigade major of the Second Mounted Rifle Brigade (chief instructor) and Lieutenant McCaskill (adjutant). Colonel-Commandant Bowels, commanding the Central Military Command, will inspect the camp on Friday. Included in the course of instruction will be musketry, care of the horse, use of the Vickers and Hotchkiss guns, and general mounted duties. During the time that the men are in camp, they will be issued with blankets, rations, forage and will receive pay. On Sunday next the camp will be open for inspection by the public, and in fact the military authorities will be only too pleased to see the public taking an opportunity to visit the camp at any time during the course of the week. During the past week, from Wednesday to Saturday, seven officers and twenty non-commissioned officers attended a refresher course at Waverley prior to the camp.
