A COSTLY BLOW.
ASSAULT BY NATIVE. PLAINTIFF AWARDED DAMAGES. The satisfaction of knocking dowa James Sadler, hairdresser, now' of Auckland, cost Munga, a native of Smart Road, £24 7s 3d. This was the total of special and general damages with oourfc and other costs awarded against Mung* in the court at New Plymouth yesterday, when the hearing of Sadlers claim; for damages was completed. The incident occurred outside Every- • body’s Theatre on the afternoon of March 19 last. Munga was accused by Sadler of having assaulted him by knocking him down, the result being in* juries which had necessitated hospital and medical treatment and which had prevented him from carrying on his om* ployment. The Magistrate (Mr. A. M. Mowlem) said Munga had not justifies the assault, the evidence concerning which had ranged from a brutal assault to one of mere pushing. It appeared U> him that the assault was one of rather more than mere pushing. The plaintiff was awarded special damages to cover his hospital and medical expenses, and loss of employment amounting to £4 and £lO general damages. The bill of costs against Munga, was made up of £3 is for costs of taking Sadler’s evidence in Auckland, £1 14s court costs, £2 17s 3d witnesses’ expenses, and £2 2s plaintiff’s costs.
