CANADIAN SHIPPING.
REPORT OF COMMISSION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Coujrrlgtit. Ottawa, June 12. The report of the special committee on shipping recommends co-operative artion against the Shipping States Conference. who charge almost as much to carry butter from Montreal to Liverpool as they do from New Zealand, complaining that their refrigerator space is made use of only for a comparatively short part of the season. Referring to the Peterson subsidy, it says: “It would appear wise to obtain further information as to the earnings of the conference lines of ship?, including the Peterson vessels, before attempting to pass judgment on -the contract.” Although the committee does not specifically recommend the abandonment of the subsidy and that is not the result of the report as interpreted in political circles, the probability is that the Bill granting the subsidy will either fee dropped or be allowed to remain on the order paper until passed. When the Bill was before the House Mr W. L. M Kenzie King emphasised that the putting into effect of the contract was dependent on Parliament’s approval.
