SHIPPING HOLD-UP.
AN AUSTRALIAN PREDICTION. TROUBLE WITH SEAMEN. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 15, 10.50 p.m. Sydney, June 15. The opinion in shipping circles is that .there will be a hold-up in inter-State shipping following upon the deregistration of the Seamen’s Union. The shipowners are apparently forcing the issue. So far Sydney is not affected by the decision of the Melbourne shipowners not to place in the new articles a clause guaranteeing the same wages and conditions as those existing before the union’s deregistration, but the articles of interstate vessels trading with Sydney will shortly expire, and a fight is then expected to begin here. UNION DONKEYMEN WANTED. Received June 15, 10.50 p.m. Melbourne, June 15, The Wharf Labourers’ Union declined to handle cargo from the Monara unless steam is supplied by union donkeymen.
