Late this afternoon black smoke was seen issuing from the roof of St. Helen s hospital, and the patients, under the care of the nursing staff, were speedily removed. The fire brigade made a very prompt appearance. , The blaze had originated in the kitchen, the ceiling and the top of the wall being alight. The brigade made a smart save, the fire being soon under, but several rooms were damaged through water. The building is built partly of wood and partly of iron, and consists of twenty rooms *and three wards.
