DISTRICT NEWS.
MOKOIA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) It must have been exceedingly gratifying to the hall committee to see the large audience that were in attendance at the concert and dance held last week. Mr. Laidlaw, of Hawera, assisted, by a party of first-class talent, rendered one of the most enjoyable programmes that ■we have had in Mokoia for a long time. Right from the opening chorus to the end the efforts of the artists met with rounds of applause and appreciation. Songs were rendered by Misses Laidlaw and. Grindrod. Mrs. Cate, Master Carter and Messrs. Laidlaw, West and Harvey. It would be invidious on my part to particularise any one performer as each one gave of his or her best and had to respond to encores. The comic element, which is always appreciated to the full !by the juveniles, was admirably sustained by Mr. Laidlaw, ably assisted by Mr. West. The elocutionary efforts of Miss Instone provided an item, well 'Worth going to long way to hear, and we sincerely hope that she will take up her residence permanently in Hawera so that her services at entertainments may be available. After a most enjoyable supper, dancing was indulged in till the small hours of the morning. Everyone went home voting it the most pleasing night’s entertainment that they had had for many a day. Financially the results were very good, and it will give the hall committee some little encouragement to work on. Great thanks are due to Mr. Laidlaw and his party for coming and giving their services gratuitously, and if popular opinion carries any weight they may be sure of the warmest of welcomes on any future occasion that they visit Mokoia.
