The attendance on the opening day of the Empire Exhibition at Wembley totalled 111,103. The New Zealand court concentrated largely on showing what the country is actually like. Visitors are charmed with the general waterfall scene, and also the dioramas of the Waitomo Caves, Southern Alps. Milford Sound, Wanganui River and Rotorua geysers. A life Bize cow and calf and a relief map of the Dominion modelled in butter arc excellent features. The King and the Prince of Wales lent a splendid collection of Maori arts and crafts. The New Zealand pavilion introduced a fine system of night lighting, under which the pavilion was seen at its best. One of the features of V»e opening was the good sales of overseas fruit. Australian apples sold at threepence and fourpence each. New Zealand fruitgrowers. again directly conducting their own stall and taking the profits, undersold everybody, four small apples for sixpence and five larger ones for a •hilling being the ruling prices.
