AMUNDSEN IN THE ICE.

JOURNEY TO NORTH POLE

ARRIVAL AT SPITZBERGEN,

“IN EXCELLENT SPIRITS, -

By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Received April 14, 7.5 p.m. London, April 14,

Captain Roald Amundsen, in a radio from King’s Bay, Spitsbergen, states that the Fram readied the edge -of the ice at King’s Bay at 2 a.m. ou Monday after a satisfactory crossing, despite snow and fog on Sunday morning and scattered drift ice, which compelled the Fram to proceed slowly. Small spurts of fog made it difficult to determine the position, but suddenly the mists parted on Sunday night and. the captain caught a glimpse of the northern point of Prince Karl Foreland. The ship is now proceeding full speed up the fjord. During the voyage ths Fram lost connection with the Hobby, which was outpaced but is expected in King’s Bay in twenty-four hours. The weather forecasts have held good and the meteorological service on the Fram is functioning satisfactorily and will -be still better when American reports are received after April 15. Captain Amundsen adds; “We are in excellent spirits.”
