The death of Herr Fritz Baedeker, th* guide-book publisher, aged 81, is announced in a Berlin eable.
It is understood that Mr. G. G. Aitken, who captained New Zealand against the Springboks prior to being selected as a Rhodes scholar, is returning from England this year.
A cabled message from London states that the Duke of Devonshire had a slight seizure on Monday, but spent a good night and is in a satisfactory condition.
Mrs. Dougal Thompson is at present on a visit to New Plymouth, and i* staying with her sister, Mrs. J. Mynott. Some 24 years ago the late Mr. Thompson was licensee of the Terminus Hotel, disposing of his interests to the late Mr. Dan O’Brien. Mr. Thompson died at Newcastle, New South Wale*, over five years ago.
Dr. Frengley, lately deputy-Direetor General of Health, has been appointed director of the Division of Food and Drugs. Dr. Watt, the deputy-Direetor General, becomes acling-DireOtor General in Dr. Vulinline'a absence in Britain and Europe. Dr. McKibbon succeeds Dr. Watt as director of th* Division ef Public Hygiene.
