Village end and 40 chains at the Inglewood end. Of the 70 chains still left to tar-seal a large part has already been metalled.

About 50 men were being employed on the job, said Mr. Clarke, and the equipment included one sprayer, two cruahers, one roller, one traction engine, four lorries and tho usual graders and other smaller appliances. There was plenty of bitumen to finish tho work, and stone supplies were being obtained as the work proceeded. Two short pieces of a few chains each in length wouli not be tar-sealed this summer, but would be left for six months in order that the foundations might settle, A great many cars and ’buses were using the new road already, concluded Mr. Clarke, and they were the worst hindrance that the men had to contend with. The work could be completed more expeditiously if these motor vehicles would use the other routes, he said. A number of cars went from Egmont Village to Inglewood aud baek by way of Kaimiro, but the the grade too steep and preferred to travel via Lepperton.
