Mr. R. G. Scott, sub accountant in the Wellington office of the Bank of New land, has been promoted to the position of manager of the branch at Waimate. He will be succeeded by Mr. S. Bongard, from the Christchurch office. The Hon. Geo. Fowlds arrived in New Plymouth by the mail train last evening. He subsequently met a number of townsmen interested in the establishment of a Rotary Club in New Plymouth, and wdl attend a meeting in connection with th* movement to be held to-day. The death of Lord Blyth, aged 84 years, is announced >n a London cable. He was interested in viticultural and agricultural questions, »n the fiscal and commercial policy of the Empire, and in cheap post and telegraphic communication, with all of which he dealt in various publications. Reassuring reports of the improvement of the health of the Prime Minister show that Mr. Massey js steadily recovering from the severe and painful attack of sciatica lyhich has lately incapacitated I him. In the course of a letter received by a friend in Auckland, Mr. Massey said: “1 am glad to report that there «» every indication that the course of treatment I am at present undergoing will prove effective in bringing about a complete recovery.
