GARDEN FETE.
FUNCTION AT MARSLAND VIEW. FUNDS FOR CONVENT SCHOOL. A very successful garden fete was held at “Maryland View" on Saturday in aid of the funds being raised for the purpose of building a new Convent .School in New Plymouth. The weather was ideal for such a function, and everyone present, both old and young, sptnt a most enjoyable time. The fete was continued in the evening . the special lighting effects adding much to the attractiveness of the scene. Heavily-laden stalls were arranged under the shade of the trees, and a Maypole was erected on the lawn f»' the little ones. In addition there were other attractions, including bran tub, ice-cream ami refreshment stalls, games of all descriptions, and music by the ■bazaar orchestra of a half-dozen players or more. Afternoon tea was also served on the grounds. 'Those in charge of the stalls w’ere: Novelty stall. Misses Chiplin and Bennett; sweets stall, Mrs. Burke and Miss Phillips; Hower and cake stall. Mrs. Bullot ahd Mrs. Rennie; bran tub. kiesdames Jones and Daily; Maypole, Mrs. Avery: ice-cream and refreshment stall, Mrs. Walsh and Miss Penman.
