CHRISTMAS SHOPPING.

CLOSING HOURS UNALTERED. By Telegraph—Press Aaaoclatloa. Wellington, Nov. 22. The Arbitration Court refused any exemptions from the closing hour provisions in the shop-assistants’ award for Christmas on the ground that they could not discriminate between large and small shops in congested areas. The court also had before it a demand that workers be paid, overtime for travelling to work in the suburbs. It appeared that a clause had been inserted in a new award, but it did not say that rates should be paid. In opposition it was contended this was a claim for overtime when the men were not working. Mr. Justice Fraser reserved his decision, but said he was pretty certain in his own mind it was not a case for overtime.
