EVERY’BODY’S. MATINEE TO-DAY AT 2 P.M. To-day's matinee programme at Everybody’s will include “Cytherea,” a Baby Peggy comedy “Stepping Some,” a scenic and topical. Matinee admission prices are; Adults Is and Is Gd, children 6d. A First National eight-reel attraction ‘lOytherea,” closes a three-night season at Everybody’s Theatre this evening. Alma Reubens, Irene Rich and Lewis Stone head the cast. A feature of the production is the scenes in natural colours. In addition to -liiis feature, tlie usual comedy, scenic and gazette are shown. Everybody’s Orchestra renders a special musical programme. Box plan arrangements are advertised elsewhere in this issue. Next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the management of Everybody’s will screen a double attraction, headed by Rex Beach’s famous novel “Big Brother.” A second attraction of more than usual interest is the All Blacks in their first match of the tour against Devon. THE PEOPLE’S. MATINEE TO DAY AT 2 P.M. John Gilbert, who starred some time ago in “Monte Cristo,” will appear at the People’s Theatre this afternoon, tonight and Monday, in "The Lone Chance,” a William Fox feature. While the new picture is modern in setting, it has almost as many thrills as there were contained in the Dumas masterpiece. “The Lone Chance” is dramatically presented in a swift, convincing manner. The story itself is replete with romant’c action and thrilling episodes. Gilbert carries off his character portrayal smoothly, and Evelyn Brent, playing the feminine lead, has a charming personality. Other films to be shown include a two-reel comedy, a further chapter of "Beasts of Paradise,” and a Fox News film. Admission prices at the People’s Theatre are: Stall- 9d, dress circle Is 3d (children 6d to matinee). EMPIRE THEATRE. “TEN NIGHTS IN A BAR-ROOM.” ‘•Safety Last” concluded its season at the Empire Theatre last evening. The new programme for to-night is headed •by "Ten Nights in a Bar-room,” an eight-reel pieturisation by L. iSase Russell of the old stage sensation of the same name. The etory is a historical one, intensely interesting and appealing. It is a story of folly and a child; just a little wisp of a girl, with a world of innocent tenderness and pathetic juvenility. The vast are all loinpetent and the settings are natural. In short, “Ten Nights in a Bar-room” is a real entertainment. and will give you much to think about. The supporting films are advertised. Admission prices at the Empire this evening are: Adults Is and Is fid. children Gd and 9d. MALE CHOIR AND ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY. The box plan for the Male Choir and Orchestral Society’s concert opens this morning at Collier’s. and intending patrons will do well to book without delay. The programme, which is a very attractive one, should appeal to lovers of either vocal or instrumental music and elocution. The visiting artist, Miss Teresa McEnroe, brings with her a great reputation. Of her recent appearance in Wellington the following Is an extract from the Dominion. “In the Golden Legend” she took the part of Elsa, her singing of that role reached a peak of excellence that she never before attained. The soprano made this impression strong in her finst solo, “Why Should I Live.” and again in her very 'beautiful rendering of the devotional number. "My Redeemer and My Lord.” An exhausting test was set her in the supplementary number presented before "The Legend,” and this was handled in a masterly manner.
